Documents to present at the Border

International travellers must meet the requirements established by the Schengen Borders Code when entering Spain. As a property owner or agency, it is useful to know which documents authorities may request so you can provide accurate information to your guests if needed.

Main documents

1. Valid passport or travel document
It must meet the following conditions:

• Valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure date from the Schengen area.
• Issued within the last 10 years.

2. Visa (if required based on nationality)
Some nationalities need a Schengen visa for short tourist stays.
A visa is not required if the traveller has:

• A valid residence permit from a Schengen State, or
• A long-stay Schengen visa issued by another member country.

3. Documents justifying the purpose of stay
Authorities may request documentation proving the reason for the trip. Accepted documents include:

• Return ticket or organised travel itinerary.
• Accommodation confirmation, such as the one issued by Livantra.
• Invitation letter from a private individual (only proves accommodation, not all requirements).
• For business trips: invitations to events, meetings or conferences.
• For studies or internships: enrolment, admission letter or training agreement.
• For other purposes: tickets, registrations, programmes or certificates related to the activity.
