Refusal of Entry

Border authorities may refuse entry to Spain for travellers from third countries who do not meet the requirements established by the Schengen Borders Code. Entry may be denied for several reasons, such as insufficient documentation, missing visa when required, lack of financial means, or exceeding the maximum permitted stay in the Schengen Area.

Entry will also be refused to nationals of third countries who do not fulfil the entry conditions or who are subject to an entry ban. Likewise, entry may be denied if the traveller has already used the maximum authorised stay of 90 days within any 180-day period in the Schengen Area.

The refusal of entry is formally notified through a written decision stating the grounds and informing the traveller of the available appeals, in accordance with Spanish regulations. However, submitting an appeal does not suspend the effects of the entry refusal.
